How I accidentally became a Children's Book Author!

The balance of motherhood and entrepreneurship is a big topic in my life these days.

Since becoming a mother, I find myself continuously looking for opportunities where I can combine the two - to find a way to keep my business alive while being able to stay at home with my daughter.

For anyone who knows me personally, you know that I’ll NEVER be one to make money in a conventional way. If I had to guess - I have only spent a total of about one year working a full-time 9-5 job in my lifetime, where my boss at the time took me aside to explain that I was much more suited to "work for myself". Don’t get me wrong, I rocked that job and have references to prove it - but I was much too big of a dreamer and a doer to spend my life working for someone else. With my starving artist mentality and BIG dreams, I took that as permission to do my thing and I kicked it into high gear and built a successful freelance graphic design business!

Fast forward to now and you’ll notice that I have intentionally scaled my business back to part-time hours to allow more time at home with my daughter. But let’s be real, we all have bills to pay! Financially I had to come up with a solution to make this shift possible, I had to replace my income… and I needed to do it quickly. So I thought, what better way to combine motherhood and entrepreneurship than to write not one, but FOUR children’s books! So I did, and in less than one year I have managed to not only replace that income, but have exceeded what I ever thought possible!

So, here’s to always thinking outside the box, to taking risks while finding ways to continue doing what I love. Here’s to accidentally becoming a Children’s Book Author!

Tell me, are you more of a risk taker in your life/business? Or do you prefer to play it safe? For all the working mothers out there - how do you balance motherhood and entrepreneurship?

Stay Kind,
